…And Bells on Her Toes

Caity was miserable tonight.  She’s working on her last tooth so it’s understandable, but really.  Normally after I pick her up from daycare, as soon as we get home I change her butt and stick a bottle in her mouth – in that order.  After she gulps the bottle it’s time for ‘nigh nigh’.

I should haven known.  As soon as she was done with her bottle, she started grumping.  I took her upstairs and put her in her crib and she started screaming.   And screaming.  And screaming.  Alex went upstairs to settle her down and she whimpered for a bit and then started screaming again. 

I went upstairs and tried to play ‘bad cop’, which is hard to do with a 15 month old.  They don’t understand.  I kept telling her to settle down and it’s time for bed and she screamed and whimpered at me.

Then she leaned in towards me and puckered her lips for a kiss.

She wanted to be reassured, I think, that Mommy still loves her.

I kiss her and start talking softly to her to get her to calm down, yet not picking her up.  She lies down on her face with her butt in the air and screams.  She stands up and wants another kiss.  She did that about 6 times and really, it was very sweet and kind of funny – but I had to remain poker-faced.

In the end, she won and we went downstairs.  See.  15 months old and already she knows how to work the system …
