“Sons are mysteries and daughters are mirrors.”

I read that quote in the Toronto Star today and I though it was brilliant.  It’s from a play starring Megan Follows and her real-life mother Dawn Greenhalgh, entitled “Night Mother”.

It’s so true.  My own daughters are little mirrors of me.  Whether or not that’s a good thing remains to be seen.  From the time Lexy was very little, people would call her “mini-me” or my little clone.  Her mannerisms are like mine (but then some of them could be taught – think genetics vs. environment).  I couldn’t have possibly taught her to throw off her covers in the middle of the night, requiring my husband to cover us back up.  I have seen her try to emulate me though.  If I’m in a bad mood or just plain grumpy, she reacts to it and grumps along with me.

I try to teach my children to be good people.  I don’t mean goody-two-shoes, but they should still respect other people and their feelings.  They should be nice to others.  Things like that.  It’s hard, especially when we try to lead by example and fail miserably.   There is nothing worse than being called on something by your four year old.  “But Mummy, you do it.”  How can you argue with that kind of logic?

My littlest angel is very affectionate and lately very kissy.  I adore this about her because she likes to cuddle and so do I.  Much to my husband’s chagrin.  He only likes to cuddle if he thinks he’s going to get some, but that’s for another post.
