Looks like my premonition was just a bad dream.  David Cook won American Idol.  Congratulations David, you were the sole Survivor on American Idol Island!  The American voting public finally got something right.  I read in another blog that more people vote for American Idol than vote for the Presidency.  Now that’s sad.

From the first time David C. sang in the top 24, I had a feeling he would win it all.

Tonight’s performance of American Idol Island was, as usual, 1:55 minutes too long.  I don’t know why they drag the finale out so long.  Every time the top 12 performed they just proved that they were nothing more than campy kids playing in a high school play, rather than real singers in concert.  They don’t blend.  At all.  Amanda Overmyer’s voice has gotten more gravelly since we last heard her and it sounds as though she’s been gargling with Draino.  They found every dried up singer they could and put them on stage.  From Donna Summer (who needed to be escorted down the stairs), to Bryan Adams (who isn’t aging well), to ZZ Top (they still alive?) all had performances with at least one of the top 12.  The American Idol Island kids tried to sing ‘over’ the professionals and failed miserably. The only good duet was a barefoot Brooke singing with Graham Nash.  She’s great at ballads.

It seems like Brooke doesn’t wear shoes, no matter what instrument she plays.  I can relate to that.

Simon did make one classy move tonight and that was when he said to David Cook that he was a little harsh on him and apologized.  Good boy, Simon.

For someone who only went to keep his brother company, David Cook took home the ultimate prize.  Congratulations David, I’m looking forward to your music.

At least we didn’t have to hear has-been Ruben Studdard sing that stoopid “celebrate me home” song to David Archuleta …
