The Beat Goes On

Well. Did anyone watch Jessica Simpson eat the microphone tonight? When she wrapped those big lips around the mic I honestly thought I’d never seen anything funnier. She can’t sing and the songs from her new country album are … well … not that good. It’s a good thing the Dancers on the show provided a well deserved distraction. Seriously Jess, the good singers pull the microphone away from their face when they hit a power note, they don’t try to shove it down their throat so you can hear it. Enough of that diatribe, I can see where the spam comments are going already – not to mention the search engine hits. Personally I love some of the ones I’ve received so far. At least I know people are finding my post – a comment now and again would be nice too …
All I can say is that they had the final two contestants correct. Glad Kim Kardashian is gone. She had as much grace on the dancefloor as an epileptic turtle. Next to go should be Chloris Leachman, if there is any justice in this world. I’m also glad to see that my votes for Julianne and Cody kept them in the running. Seriously, Derek and Julianne. Finals. Anyone else think that’s a good idea??
What can I say except for “humina-humina!” I’m thrilled Season Two has started and I can see it on a bigger screen that’s not covered in cheese. Still love Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and I can’t wait for him to take his shirt off again … *sigh*. Peter O’Toole does a remarkable job as Pope Paul III. Didn’t realize dead men could act. Not his best role. It looks like you’ll be able to watch episodes on the CBC site again. Can’t wait for the finale. Seriously. Good TV. You see a glimmer of the mad man Henry the Eighth becomes – the symbolism with the swan is exquisite. Scary. Revolting. Exquisite.
S…it!

I ran out of shampoo yesterday. I go to the salon to buy it. It’s outrageously priced – $36 for a small bottle of shampoo plus a teeny pot of conditioner. It’s the price I pay to make my colour last longer. Yeah, cause all those streaks are natural, uh-huh. I picked the girls up after work and headed out to the salon. Caity was on-fire grumpy. She was tired. She was hungry. She didn’t want to leave Terri. She didn’t want Mommy just then. It was a really fun ride home. I stopped briefly at home to shove a bottle in Cait’s mouth to shut her up and it worked a bit. I packed the girls back in the car and we were off to the ‘Shwa. I promised the girls a trip to Grandma’s after if they were good, as she lives just around the corner from the salon.
We arrived at the salon and the girls tried to be good. They really did. Lexy only moved from chair to chair in the lobby about 20 times before I had to give her the old evil-Mommy stare and snake-speak “ssssssitttdddowwwnn!!”. Cait, being Cait, she decided not to listen to Mommy no matter how much I hissed. We played ‘chase the toddler’ around the lobby and through the salon. She picked up every bottle on display in the lobby and managed to knock a few things to the ground. I quickly grabbed the items off the shelf that I needed and walked over to the reception desk. Caity wanted to hold the bottles of shampoo. “Bubbie?” she asked. “No, Caity, not your bubbie, it’s Mommy’s”. Caity threw her head back and let out a howl that would wake the dead. Through her crocodile tears she said “Bubbie??”.
Fine. Hold. The. Damn. Bottle.
After some giggles that proved she pushed the correct buttons and got what she wanted, Caity walked around the lobby with her prized “bubbie”. That’s when Caity spotted the comfy chairs near the door.
She pointed her finger and said “Shit?”
*sigh*
*stifling a laugh* “No, Caity, the ‘H’ is silent …”
Everyone in the lobby started laughing. Caity looked perplexed, after all she just wanted to sit in the chair….
Ummmmmm…..

Caity has a new thing. Anytime she’s asked a question, she preceeds the answer with a very pensive “ummmmmmm”. She holds her hand to her mouth and thinks about the response for a minute.
Me: “Caity, where’s Daddy?”
Her: “Ummmmm…” *thoughtful moment* “Daddy gone?”
Me: “Yes, Daddy’s at work.”
Her: “MmmHMMM !!” *Nodding her agreement*
Me: “Caity, where’s Bubbie?”
Her: “Ummmmm….” *puts hand to mouth* “Bubbie DERE !!”
She loves to emphasize words too. We’re still having the same old “Up/Down” argument and Caity won’t admit when she’s wrong. She’s just as stubborn as her Daddy.
Caitlyn also loves to nod her head to the music. We have a “Fridge Farm” by Leapfrog that she loves to play with. You push the Frog button and Farmer Tad will play his banjo for you. Every time one of those banjo-strumming songs comes on, Caity bops her head to the music. Nothing like seeing your Head Banging Toddler bop along to “Skip to my Loo”. Rock on babe!
Official Stay at Home and Watch T.V. Week

Is that the tagline ABC is using? I thought it was quite clever actually – National Stay at Home and Watch TV Week – or whatever they call it … after my National Week of Hell at Work, I’m up for a little mindless TV watching.
*blissful sigh* Grey’s Anatomy two hour premiere tonight!! Caity goes to bed at 9:00 normally so I’m thinking her bottle might be a tad earlier tonight for no related reason.
*Double sigh* Only five (!!!) days left to the start of the second season of the Tudors. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is too hot for this column. Sorry honey, but if he ever shows up on our doorstep, I’m leaving you…. (because we all know THAT would happen …) O.K., yes, I admit I watched Season Two *ahem* on the Internet this past Summer, but I can’t wait to see it on a big screen without the buffering issues. I can’t totally blame my cable company, I actually blame the creators of Warcraft (hello, Mr. Blizzard??) for making my husband so addicted that he’s stealing all my bandwidth! All I can say is that the ending of Season Two is unbelievably good and if anyone out there knows their Tudor history, all I can say is poor Anne… it’s sooo worth watching. I thought Season One was good, but after re-watching it (after viewing Season Two), it pales in comparison. I hope to see Natalie Dormer in more movies because she is a terrific actress. When she begs her husband to take care of their daughter, Elizabeth, it’s heartwrenching. Do they have Emmys in England?
And, Dancing With the Stars is back on! Not sure how I feel about this season’s contestants yet, but I’m still routing for Julianne Hough (partnered this time with Cody Linley). She’s impossibly cute and a fantastic dancer. It would be a great season ender to have her go toe-to-toe with her brother Derek in the finals, dontcha think? It’s nice to see Julianne partnered with someone who can actually move for a change and doesn’t make lewd and completely inappropriate jokes at the judging table… for gosh sakes, she was only 19 last season…
I think that Cloris Leachman is past her prime and should be eliminated shortly. I’m sure that 82 I won’t be dancing half as well as she is, but still, I don’t need to see it. Especially with the way she’s flirting with her partner, Corky Ballas – I know I’m a Cougar*, but really there are limits people! At least Corky is taking it in stride. Good boy. Glad Ted McGinley is gone, never a fan of his – and I’ve been watching him a lot of years … Happy Days, Love Boat, Married With Children … There’s only one new dancer I like this season and that’s the little goth chick Lacey Schwimmer. According to her online bio, she made the finals of “So you think you can dance” – but does that mean she won? Can someone help me out here? Anyway, she’s got spunk, she’ll do well if she can convince Lance Bass to get close enough to her to dance properly (ewww.. girls…)
It’s not American Idol Island, but it ain’t bad. What’s up with that worst kept secret anyway? Clay Aiken = Gay. Really. You don’t say. You could have pushed me over with a feather. I think I will have a heart attack from the shock of that news**. I think I knew the first time I saw him bat his eyes at Ryan Seacrest, not that it was a tough guess…
Anyway, I’ll let you know how Grey’s goes. Mmmm McDreamy Mania … *sigh*

*Cougar = Older Woman, Younger Man
**In case you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic…
Sap! Bap! Sna!
September 20, 2008 at 10:01 am | In Caityisms, Sisters | Leave a CommentTags: Toddler Talk
The were at it again this morning. Lexy and Caity were playing. Lexy was over by the T.V. and she’d start the countdown: “Five, four, three, two, one, blastoff!” and she’d run towards the couch. Then Caity would go to the T.V. and shout “Sap! Bap! Sna!” and run towards the couch.
It’s hysterically funny to watch the little sister imitate the big sister.
But then they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Caity adores her big sister and apparently wants to be just like her.
Caity also talked on the T.V. clicker a lot this morning. She picks it up and holds it to her ear. “Hiiiii!! Blah da waa Mommy, shoo da! Toe-toe!” It was a very meaningful conversation …
Oh well, as long as they’re happy.
Mommy’s on a Leash
September 18, 2008 at 5:52 pm | In Caityisms, Miscellaneous Crap | Leave a CommentAt work recently we have implemented a new security system. I work out in the sticks so this is pretty high-tech, but after working on Bay Street for a number of years, it’s old hat to me. Prior to the fancy-scmancy security system, we had key pads on the doors and if we put in our secret four-digit code, we could enter the building. Now you just hold your I.D. badge to a little sensor and it unlocks the doors.
I’ve always had an I.D. badge, I just never needed it before. Now I have to carry it everywhere if I want to move around the building. I have it on a tethered yo-yo type string which I can clip to my waistband. Yesterday I forgot to put my badge back in my purse when I went home. I went to pick up the kids and after the inital hugging, Caity grabbed my I.D. badge, looked at the picture and said “Mommy!”. She giggled, said “Mine!” over and over, and started to run away – still holding my I.D. badge. Eventually she went as far as the bungee string would allow. After a few good tugs it slipped out of her hand and came barrelling back towards me.
Caity’s eyes lit up. Looking confused she said “Mommy gone!”.
Thank You, Baby…

Yesterday I was working on my laptop and I guess Caity decided I should be paying attention to her instead of my work. She was munching on a cheese stick and she came up on the couch to cuddle in next to me. As I typed, she would lean over and put her head on my arm, blocking my view of the screen. “Hiiiiiiiii!!!” she would say and then sit up straight.
“Yeah, Mommy’s still ignoring you …”
She did it again, leaned right in and said “Hiiiiii!!!!!”, then sat up.
I guess I must have been a little slow on the uptake. When I continued to disregard her presence, she decided to clean my computer screen for me.
With cheese.
*sigh* Thank you, baby.
School Days

Lexy’s so happy to have started school again. I brought her today, in her new outfit and holy crap, she looks like such a big girl.
She proudly ran around the school yard with her backpack on, refusing to take it off. She saw her Vice Principal on the way in and she ran over and gave her a big hug. They know each other well. They spent a lot of time together last year – not always for good reasons. Lexy had a few adjustment problems and spent a lot of time in the VP’s office after having a tantrum. Nearer the end of the last school year, if Lexy was having a good day, they would send her to see the VP for a treat. That method worked like a charm. Who knew positive reinforcement would be so effective.
Lexy’s looking so grown up. She was wearing the headband that Grandma gave her. So little and yet so big at the same time.
To my darling daughter, I say: I hope you will always enjoy school, Doodle. You have a big brain that’s just aching for knowledge. You are like a sponge – you absorb everything and yearn for more. You amaze me every day. You have the capacity to do anything you want in this world and I hope you get the education you need to succeed. Don’t be like Mom. Stay in school. You’re worth it. I love you babes. Pinky-swear.
Happy September! And Other Stuff.
September 2, 2008 at 8:50 pm | In All Things Doodle, Caityisms, Sisters | Leave a CommentTags: Autumn, Mosquito Bites, The Tudors
Yeah right, who am I kidding. September = Fall/Autumn. Fall/Autumn = Winter. Winter = Brrr.r.r.rrr.r. I hate Winter and I hate snow. I always have, with the odd exception. After a storm, I think the world is incredibly beautiful with the trees all covered in snow, when no one has yet walked/drove through the fresh snow… Snow right at Christmas time is wonderful. After that, it can disappear again.
September is a wonderful month. With the exception of my birthday (September 8th by the way), I love September. The trees change colours and there is no place quite like the Ontario countryside for sheer beauty. It’s not too warm and the really cold weather hasn’t set in yet. Today as I was driving Caity to daycare I noticed that the trees have already begun to change colour. The beautiful fullness of a Summer tree slowly gives way to the Autumn fire as the leaves change from green to gold, red, or orange. Pictures cannot do Mother Nature justice. September is also when the new TV Season starts – can’t wait to see The Tudors Season Two again! (I watched it the first time on the internet this Summer).
September is when school starts. Lexy begins Senior Kindergarten on Friday. *sigh*. She is also sporting three new teeth! Her first permanent molars which weren’t due for another year, thank you very much, have cut through the gums. Another milestone.
Remember that mosquito bite I mentioned earlier? The good news is thanks to the hydrocortizone cream, Lexy’s top eyelid is not pouffy anymore but it’s turning purple. The bad news is that while at Grandma’s yesterday she got another bite underneath that same eye! The poor kid looks beaten …
Earlier tonight we had our comic relief session. Lexy started walking around the family room with her hands on her lower back, palms up and she was hunched forward. She started saying “Wokka wokka wokka” – kind of like Fozzy Bear. She did this faster and faster in a circle and suddenly, Caity stood up and copied Lexy exactly, right down to the Wokka Wokka. We were killing ourselves laughing. By the time I could get the video camera ready, she wouldn’t do it anymore. Figures.
Right now as I write this, Alex made a bottle for Caity before her bedtime. He handed it to her and said “go give this to Mommy”. Caity took the bottle, walked over and gave it to me. I put it down and she got a little stressed. She paced back and forth for a minute and said “Bubbie!”. I guess I wasn’t moving fast enough for her because she finally decided to feed herself. She’s sitting next to me right now drinking the bubbie all by herself… and complaining. Guess I have to go and do Mom things now. It’s hard writing a post with a toddler beside you who thinks everything is “mine” – including my computer …
