My Sit!

Caity has her own language as most toddlers her age do. She is also a little demanding and likes to have her own way – well heck, who doesn’t? The other day, near bedtime, Caity was particularly cranky. It’s probably because of this horrible cold that Grandma gave her. Cait was just plain miserable. I needed to finish some work on my laptop and she wanted nothing more than to cuddle next to me, wrapped in a blanket.
Me: “Caity, come sit” I said, patting the spot on the couch next to me.
I was sitting in the corner spot on our sectional sofa and wanted to put Caity on my right. Caity had other ideas.
Her: Shaking her head. “Nooo Mommy, my sit!” she said pointing at where I was sitting.
Me: “No, Caity, this is Momma’s sit”
Her: Wailing “MYyyYYyyyYY Sit!!!”
*sigh*
So I picked her up, moved over and plunked her in the corner. She tearfully looked up at me and said “Denk Momma!”
Me: “You’re welcome, baby”.
All Caity wanted was her sit.
Gee Thanks, Kid

Lately whenever Caity gets into something or is being a pest (honestly I don’t know where she gets that from), I tell her “Shoo! Caity Shoo!”
So today I’m on the downstairs computer (which by the way is going through Warcraft withdrawal since Hubby’s not home), doing the laundry while the girls watch TV and play. Caity loves the computer so she climbs up on my lap while I’m playing Mah Jong Quest and presses on the keyboard furiously. I tell her to stop and of course this makes her press the keyboard harder and faster. She picks up the phone beside me and starts pressing random numbers. Personally I think she’s dialing her friends in Hong Kong .. “Calling Hong Kong babies!!”. But I digress. So here I am pushing her hands away (you see where this is going, don’t you?) and she’s getting madder and madder. She turns to me and yells “NO MOMMY! SHOO!”
I was just shoo’d by a 22 month old … sheesh.
And Now Back to Our Regular Programming …

There’s a reason five year olds don’t make great babysitters…
Hubby is away this weekend – his annual boys weekend and Grey Cup. I took the girls grocery shopping and the video store – real exciting weekend stuff. After we got home, I left the car running in the driveway while I piled the girls in the house. I told Lexy to keep an eye on her little sister while I brought the groceries in and put the car in the garage.
Her: Proudly “OK Mom!!”
So, I go outside and on the second trip heavy with groceries and I hear Caity crying and screaming in the Living room.
Me: “Lexy! I told you to watch your sister!”
Her: In the Family Room, jumping up from the couch ”I am watching her”
Me: Exasperated “Lex! You’re not even in the same room!!”
Her: “Oh … “
*sigh*
Caity was fine by the way. She just hates it when I’m out of sight.
Earlier this week, my Hubby decided to expand Caity’s play zone. We’ve always believed in Free-range babies, but to a point. We’ve never been too crazy about the little ones near stairs. We had our high tech baby gates in place and Hubby moved them so now Caity can go from the Family Room, through the kitchen and into the Dining/Living Rooms all by herself. There was still a chair in front of the kitchen/hallway exit. So I’m sitting in the kitchen one day this week and I see Caity, sweet as you please, walk over to the chair – pull it out towards her and walk around it. She then proceeded to pull the chair back in place and walk down the hallway. I was shocked. Up until this point, Caity always respected the boundaries in the house and never even attempted to push or pull the chairs out of her way.
Apparently big sister Lexy moved the chair back to let Caity get through earlier and Caity remembered how to do it.
*sigh*
Oh and Caity’s sick again (yes, we still blame Grandma). Poor little thing is upstairs hacking up her lungs as we speak. I picked up a warm mist vaporizer for her room and the smell of Vicks is permeating the air. Hopefully it will help. She’s still the happiest little sick kid I’ve ever seen. Nothing gets Caity down
Get well soon baby.
And the three of us got our flu shots on Thursday. Caity was so funny. She sat in my lap, preoccupied with what lexy was doing and Lexy was watching what the Doctor was doing. The doctor swabs Caity’s arm and she’s not paying attention. He sticks the needle in her arm and very slowly Caity turns her head, looks at her arm then slowly looks all the way up to where the Doctor was standing and she had this look on her face like “WHAT do you THINK you are DOING???!!” It was pretty funny.

OK Caity. It’s NOT OK to hit just so you can kiss it better.
Tonight after I came home from a very long day at a very dull conference, and I hadn’t seen my kids since yesterday morning - Caity was, naturally, very happy to see me. We played for a bit and Cait did something (I forget now) that hurt, so I said “Ow”.
Dontcha think that she reaches over and starts to kiss me where the boo boo was. At first it was cute, her imitating what I do when she has a boo boo. However, not long after that, she decided to make boo boos. She pulled my hair then started to kiss, kiss, kiss me. I told her “No!” and of course she started crying. A little while later she hit me in the head and immediately started to kiss, kiss, kiss me.
*sigh*
I can see what she was trying to do. She was trying to play a kissy game but doesn’t realize that deliberately hurting someone is wrong.
Not that I’m encouraging it, but it is very funny.
The Hills (of Toronto) are Alive, With the Sound of Music!

This summer we had a little contest happening whereby we could vote for an actress to become the star of the Toronto production of the Sound of Music and I’m recanting my vote. I didn’t watch the How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria from the beginning, in fact, I think I caught it about half way through. I admit, at the time, I wasn’t thrilled with Janna Polzin, I actually voted for the winner, Elicia MacKenzie. But mea culpa, I was wrong. During the TV show, I thought Janna more closely resembled “Maria” – and when I say Maria, I mean Dame Julie Andrews – and I didn’t really like her singing. Maybe it was her choice of songs, but I thought that Elicia had a smoother voice and was more suited to the role.
Am I glad they had the understudy today.
Janna rocks as Maria. Her voice is so beautiful and she embodies the role of Maria so completely – she sent shivers down my spine with her first few notes.
The play itself, is magnificent. The kids are adorable and brought tears to my eyes with their cuteness. My only question though is that with all of the baritones in Toronto, couldn’t they have picked a better Captain Von Trapp? I read a review online earlier and I’m paraphrasing, but I believe the author said that when Maria and the Captain kiss for the first time, it was like she was making out with her gay uncle. You have to see them in action to understand. And yup, the author was right. Good analogy. At one point it was almost like Captain Kirk had been beamed into Burke Moses’ body … Maria … I … will… always…love … you … sheesh, kick him out already – wish I could have voted for that role…
I also object to the role of Baroness Von Schraeder. They made this character a likeable one instead of someone you love to hate. They also changed her name to Frau Schraeder … what’s up with that?Instead of being mean or indifferent to the children, she is warm and seeks their approval – and, she is the CEO of her own company! Not bad for the 1940’s!!
Speaking of the 1940s, could someone remind the director that they didn’t have camcorders in the 40’s. That Nazi at the Salzburg festival shouldn’t be walking around with one! It’s also weird hearing them say just “Heil” instead of “Heil-you-know-who”. I’m sure they were trying to err on the side of sensitivity but come on people … quit messing with a classic.
Other than changing the order of the songs and a couple of the kids forgetting their lines, it was a fantastic afternoon out. If you get the chance to see this play, go see it. It’s worth the 100 bucks – and how many things now a days can you say that about. Oh and I did pick up my animatronic goat that sings the “lonely Goatheard” song … Lexy will love it!
Well my next adventure will be Cinderella - the sillyicious family musical starring Ross Petty. Can’t wait! I’m practicing my ‘boo’ing as we speak!
Another Tooth
November 13, 2008 at 10:08 pm | In All Things Doodle, Caityisms, Sisters | Leave a CommentCaity’s cut her second second-year molar. This time on the upper left side. Two more to go and then we get a break until she’s 4-6. She says “love you” a lot now too. She sleeps with George, Puppy and Doo-Doo. She says three word sentences: We go now? Where Daddy go? Stuff like that. She’s 21 months old.
She’s growing up.
She’s cute as a button and she knows it. If she’s about to do something bad, she’ll look at you sideways and out of the corner of her eye, she’ll check to see if you’re watching. If you are, she’ll do the bad thing faster.
She loves her sister.
In the morning, because it’s beginning to get colder, Lexy cuddles under the blanket on the couch before we leave for school or daycare. Lately, Caity’s been crawling up beside her for a cuddle and to steal some of the blanket. She lies against Lexy and the two of them are very sweet together.
My girls. My life.
Dancing With the Stars … Toddler Edition

Monday nights, the girls and I watch Dancing With the Stars. I like seeing the stars make fools of themselves, albeit some of them are actually good, and the girls like the dancing and the music.
So tonight, being any other Monday night, after Lexy went to bed, Cait and I had some alone time. We tickled and giggled and kissied and laughed. I got Caity changed for bed and got ready the bedtime bubbie. Peter Gunn was playing on the TV as Kim and Warren took to the dance floor, Caity picked up her life-sized Elmo doll and twirled him around the family room.
It was so funny. Caity and Elmo dancing together. Caity was beaming she was so happy though Elmo looked less than impressed.
Of all the times not to have the video camera …
Oh Baby …
November 9, 2008 at 8:50 pm | In Caityisms | Leave a CommentTonight after bath time, I’m sitting on the couch and Caity comes up to me.
Her: “Mommy shoo!”
Me: “Pardon me?”
Her: “Mommy go!”
Me: Incredulous “You want me to go??”
Caity looks up at me.
Me: Making a sad face “You’d cry if I left you”
Caity walks over, hugs me, pats me on the back and says “Oh baby.”
*sigh* It took a few minutes for her Dad and I to stop laughing. She’s a funny little kid, even when she’s trying to make Mommy feel better.
Toddler Time Out
November 6, 2008 at 7:11 pm | In Caityisms | Leave a CommentTags: daycare drama, time out, Toddler meltdown
Caity had her first real time out today and she wasn’t thrilled about it. Apparently there was an incident at daycare today when another child didn’t share a toy when Caity thought she should have – so Caity bitch-slapped her.
*sigh*
Then Terri took Caity kicking and screaming upstairs and put her in her playpen for a time out. Cait being Cait didn’t agree with Terri’s method of punishment and began howling, unaware that isn’t the way a little girl should act in a time out.
Caity has sharing issues. She seems to think that what’s hers is hers and what’s mine is hers as well. Heaven forbid you should disagree with that statement, you might get attacked by the bitch-slappin’ toddler.
You see, if that was Lexy and someone didn’t share when she wanted to, Lex would have just cried or tattle-taled. Not Cait. She seems to be more inclined to her own brand of vigilante justice.
Well, I suppose it’s good that Caity’s got a strong personality, now I just have to figure out how to curb her enthusiasm ….
Oh Tish, You Spoke French!

Today is my Dad’s 85th Birthday. My entire clan went to my parents’ house for dinner. It’s funny but he doesn’t look his age. Most people who meet him are surprised when they hear he’s 85. He’s been my superman for the past 41 years of my life. I don’t know what I’ll do without him some day.
The girls had a great time, afterall, Uncle Robbie was there too. Rob and Alex took the girls on a long walk down the hill and in the back woods and both of them came back ruddy-cheeked and very cold. We had dinner, and Caity proved to us that she’s a carnivore and devoured all the roast beef we put in front of her.
Once she was done, Caity grabbed my hand and started kissing me all over my hand and arm. “Mmmwaa, mmmwaa, mmmwwaaaa!!” Then she’d look at me with those devilish eyes of hers and do it again. It was very cute and she was obviously looking for a reaction.
So from the kitchen, my brother Rob pipes up “Oh Tish, you spoke French!”. I started laughing as I immediately got the Addam’s Family reference. You see, as kids, my brother and I watched a lot of sitcoms and the Addams Family was one of our favourites. With Hallowe’en having just past, it seemed appropriate, n’est pas?
