Adam Lambert the “Cat”

I’ve been watching American Idol Island pretty religiously this season.  I haven’t always agreed with the judges, in fact, I’ve rarely agreed with the judges.  It seems like every time I think a song is awful (especially as ‘interpreted’ by Adam), they think it’s the most brilliant thing since sliced bread.  Even tonight I was left shaking my head as I watched Adam ruin sing “One” by U2.  I, along with Simon, agree that it’s one of my very favourite songs.  Ever.  When Adam took the stage and started singing, at first slow and soft (which seems to be his style), I thought “not bad”.  Then he started screaming and I swear, the hackles at the back of my neck raised.  I think Simon owes Bono an apology that begins like this:  “Dear Bono.  I’m sorry.  I’m really, really sorry.  I don’t know what I was thinking.  I’m sorry…”

As I watched Adam progress through the weeks, going from strength to strength, one thought had occurred to me.  He would make a fabulous Rum-Tum-Tugger.

The Jellicle Cat

The Jellicle Cat

The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious cat

The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious cat

He has the voice.  He has the stage presence.  He has the Cattitude. He has the larger-than-life acting ability.  He has the nice bod that would look great in those catty-tights, me-ow!

Seriously Adam, forget Idol and go straight to Broadway.  They need you.

Next week they’ll again crown the King of American Idol Island.  My money’s still on Danny.  It would be a great disservice if he didn’t win.  Go Danny go!

Happy Anniversary to Me

I was checking the stats on my blog’s dashboard when it occurred to me that it’s been about a year since I’ve started.  When I check back, I see that it was exactly one year ago today that I wrote my first post.

The hits started off slowly, but eventually they grew.  Any time I write about American Idol Island, I get a lot of hits.  Especially now, with Adam Lambert leading the pack … So here I go into my second year, some 2,000+ people have viewed my blogsite.  I’ve captured laughter and tears and a lot of everything in between.  I’ve written countless posts about my kids, my life, my love.  Some of the posts were written while angry and then deleted; some were written in the middle of a laugh attack because one of the kids did something especially funny.  I’ve even reviewed movies, television, shampoo, and commercials.

I’m sure I’ll have more to write about later.  Perhaps I’ll pen the story about ‘Super Bunny’ one day …

Thanks for reading.  It’s been fun. ;-)

O..K..  Is it just me or does Ryan Seacrest have a very small head?

I noticed this season that when he stands next to a lot of people, his head looks too small for his body.

On American Idol Island tonight, Jennifer Hudson was standing next to Ryan after her performance (which was great, by the way) and his head looked tiny!  Jennifer’s head looked very proportional, but seriously, what’s up with Ryan?

See??

See??

Perhaps it’s just the camera angle, but he looks to me like a balloon that’s lost some of its hellium …

Of course, this picture doesn’t help…

um...?

um...?

What do you think?

Long Lost Brothers

Here’s another theory.  Adam Lambert (American Idol) and J.D. Fortune (Rockstar INXS) are long lost brothers.

I dunno.  Maybe it’s just me, but I find them eerily similar.  Let’s just hope that Adam doesn’t end up with the same finale as J.D.

Why Bother …

Why even bother having a contest.  They should just name Adam Lambert the king of American Idol Island right now.  We all know he’s going to win.

His version of “Mad World” by Tears For Fears was awesome.  He’s so talented and did one of my favourite songs from a favourite band, justice.

C’mon Danny, pick it up ….

Please… eliminate Scott.  He so doesn’t belong here anymore ….

Caity went to bed at 6:30 tonight.  She was on-fire miserable.  There’s nothing worse than a two year old who’s sick.  She could have a meltdown faster than Simon Cowell makes a quip about someone with no talent.

Lexy and I had some girl bonding time before she went to bed tonight.  At 8:00, when American Idol Island came on, we watched Danny Gokey sing together.

“He’s a really good singer, Mom.” Lexy said to me.

“Yep, I like him too, he’s my favourite.” I said.

Lexy looked at me and asked if there would be more singers coming on after Danny.  I said “Yep, after the commercial.”

“Will they be good too, Mom?” she asked.

“Yes, most of them are really talented, Lex.” I said.

“Oh.”  Lexy looked pensive for a moment.  “Maybe you better put me on the show too Mom, I have talent.”

I started laughing, sometimes I forget how old she is.

“What??” she looked sad “I’m a good singer” she said.  “Yes Lex.” I said, thinking that she sings with a joyous heart.

Lexy came over to hug me.  “I love you the most Mommy!” she said, feeling better.

I said, “Aww thanks honey, I love you too”.

“I love you the most because you’re soft and squishy like my pillows!” she said beaming at me.

Gee thanks kid …

For Once I Agree With Simon

This week on American Idol Island, I agreed with Simon Cowell.  The first two performers (Anoop who was annoying and Meagan who was even more annoying, if that’s possible) just plain sucked.  The show really started when Danny came on stage.   Tonight he did a Rascal Flatts song (“What Hurts the Most“) that brought me (and probably some of the audience) to tears.  The poor guy just lost his Grandfather last week and I’m sure he’s still grieving his wife.  It seemed to be a fitting song dedicated to both of them.

Allison sang “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt.  I thought she was pretty good even though she looked like she was trying to channel Cyndi Lauper.  Seemed like all the judges loved the singing but wanted to burn her clothes.  ”Something out of the Adams Family” said Simon.  She’s 16 for crying out loud.  Leave the girl alone.

Scott MacIntyre’s rendition of “Just the Way You Are” by Billy Joel was, as usual of late, karaoke-ish.    Time for Scott to go so that someone else has a chance.  Sorry Scott, you’re very talented but when put up against the likes of Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert, they leave you in the dust.  However, Simon loved him.  I’m just wondering if I was watching the same performance.

Lil Rounds doing Celine Dion’s “I Surrender” … um … she did a credible performance as a potential Diva, however she’s no Celine.  It seemed a little pushed.  When she was reaching for those long high notes, she couldn’t quite get there.  I’m sure the judges will love her though .. let’s see (yes I’m typing this live as it’s on).  Randy, on the fence; Kara, still sees more potential but gave her a pass; Paula agreed with Kara and told her young it down; Simon thought she sounded like a Wedding Singer.  Go Lil, learn some contemporary songs before you get voted off.   Although it was touching when Randy hugged Lil’s little girl after he was “mean to Mommy”.

Kris Allen should probably go home too, he’s been here too long.  He’s good, but not in the same league either than the top five (Adam, Danny, Allison, Lil, Matt).  “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone” will surely get him some votes from the Tweeners.  Have to admit though, tonight he was good.

I was pleasantly surprised by Matt Giraud tonight.  He’s really good.  I passed him off as a non-contender before, but I liked it.  Funny that Paula didn’t though, she likes everyone.  OK, they loved Scott but not Matt?  I don’t get it … he could be in trouble tonight.

Let’s see if Adam can hang on to that wave he rode last week with “Play That Funky Music“.  I didn’t really like it.  I had a flashback to Rockstar INXS and thought I was watching JD Fortune performing a Broadway Melody on stage.  Too bad they booted JD from the band … The judges loved Adam.  I think he’s too big for this stage.

I’m not sure who’ll be in the bottom three tomorrow.  Probably:  Megan, Anoop, and Lil would be my bet.  Wish I could vote up here in the Great White North.

All I can say is, I can’t wait for So You Think You Can Dance Canada to start back up.  Did I mention, Yay Nico?? ;-)

*Update* Well Meagan got the boot.  She looked like she was on drugs tonight.  I think that if she hadn’t pissed off Simon with her remark about not caring, she could have stayed.  I was wrong on my guess, Lil was safe, but Scott was in the bottom three.  Glad the warbler’s gone home.  Maybe Scott’s next.

Tough decision tonight on who had the best performance on American Idol Island.  My boy, Danny Gokey was fabulous and completely in his element.  I still think he’s a ‘contendah’.  Despite what Simon said “clumsy and amateurish”, he nailed it.

Adam Lambert however, continues to be in a league of his own.  I almost didn’t recognize him with no make up and his hair in a pompadour, reminiscent of Elvis Presley.  With the exception of last week when he sang that horrible Middle-Eastern inspired version of Ring of Fire

(I’m sure Johnny Cash is still rolling over in his grave over that one).  He could have killed that song, instead he just killed it.  Tonight’s version of Tracks of My Tears was awesome.  He should make it to the finals, he really seems like the strongest contestant.  He certainly has the most complete package – looks, sound, personality.  If he doesn’t make it here, he should go back to Broadway.  I’m still not sure why he’s allowed to compete if he’s already appeared in plays on Broadway.  I would have thought that would have made him a professional musician … what do I know? … I intend on downloading this week’s performance for my iPod.

Allison Iraheta is pretty amazing too.  Her talent far belies her years.  Kara’s right, you can’t teach (what she’s got).

Sorry, it’s time for Scott to go.  I was rooting for him for a while now but he’s going to get left in the dust.  Same with Meagan Joy.  Her warbly voice drives me nuts.  Michael Sarver - yucky performance tonight, sorry.

Anoop Desai has an incredible voice but I’m getting tired of the ballads.  I was disappointed with Lil Rounds tonight too – fantastic pipes, but wrong song.  We need contestants who can do more …

Let’s see who goes home this week and what next week brings … my guess, either Scott, Meagan or Michael.  The others seem reasonably safe.  Survey says…?

*Update* It was Michael’s turn tonight.  Good luck, Michael.

um Wow

I think we just saw the winner of American Idol Island.  Despite the fact that they sang the gloved one’s songs, Adam Lambert took control and sang the perfect song for him “Black or White”.

He was awesome.  Sorry Danny, but he brought the house down.  Out of a very talented group of singers, he stands above.  One wonders why he’s not recording already.

Even Simon liked him, and that’s saying something.

Felicia Barton,  Scott MacIntyre and Lil Rounds should sail through to the top 12.  Simon loves Lil and yeah she was good.  Scott has such a great voice, I’d love to see him go far in the competition.  Felicia had the right song choice and performed well.

I’m very happy that Nick Mitchell didn’t make the top 12.  I think I’d have to stop watching the show.  The year of Sanjaya Malakar was awful enough but having to deal with which personality, Nick or Norman, would present each week would probably push me over the edge.  How he got in over Danny Gokey’s friend Jamar Rogers is beyond me.  Must have been a slow ratings week.  Jamar can sing circles around Nick.

Hopefully Jamar can get a wildcard spot somehow …

*Update*:  Yay Scott!  Yay Lil!  Boo for not choosing Felicia!  Yay though for Jorge.  He’s really good (and humble to boot).  Good for him :)   Let’s see how the wildcard slots go…
